| Getting Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts to Work
I posted the steps to get COH F to work inside a thread so I'm just making a separate one so it's easier for others to find. The reason why I am doing this is because this game was the most difficult game for me to get working (not to say it was hard, because it wasn't  ). I worried about all this long before I even started downloading the game, and for the other fellow worriers, or just the newbies, I decided to share my experience for the convenience of others. If you follow these steps you can unlock all the factions and the original campaign while downloading the minimum amount of material. Please read them carefully and use your common sense at all times.
1. Download the game. I recommend getting it here: http://www.warez-bb.org/viewtopic.php?t=1392533&start=0
2. Extract rars.
3. Use Daemon Tools or whatever to mount the MDS and install the game using the provided serial. You do not need to use an IDE drive or YASU or any other bullsh*t.
4. Download and patch your game up to the latest version. Go to http://cohpatch.relic.com
to get the patches the speed is insanely fast and all the patches are there. Great job, Relic! Don't start the game after each patch.
5. Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. It doesn't have an extension, open it up with notepad.
6. At the bottom, add three more entries:
127.0.0.1 cohlive.quazal.net
127.0.0.1 cohlive-1.quazal.net
127.0.0.1 reliclive.quazal.net
7. There is not a CD crack that enables you to play in LAN games, which means you basically have no multiplayer since Hamachi uses LAN as well. You need an untouched EXE file so a mini image would be required. Go to gamecopyworld and get the mini image for Opposing Fronts. Get the mini image for vanilla COH as well.
8. Now, everyone says to use YASU and cloak Daemon tools with it and then mount the OF mini image. But for me, I used a virtual IDE drive and it worked beautifully. You will need Daemon Tools Pro Advanced, I recommend getting version 4.10.218 because that is the only working version as of 3/14/2009. So mount the OF mini image on a virtual ide drive using daemon tools and run the game. You do not need to turn off your internet. If you did everything correctly, Relic will think that your internet is off because you blocked their servers. Thus they won't badger you to create an account and instead tell you to "insert your DVD", which you mounted. Click validate and it will detect that your DVD is "in the drive" and it'll take you to the main menu.
EDIT: Thanks to feedback by check123 the virtual IDE method does not work in 100% of the cases. It depends on the hardware of your computer. I would suggest trying a virtual IDE drive first and if that does not work, revert to using YASU. Because YASU is an acronym for many things and is relatively hard to google (not to mention many sites host outdated versions), I'll provide a download link for YASU. http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_utils_8.shtml#Y.A.S.U
9. Note this serial: http://rapidshare.com/files/150233197/9294-8231-8be6-7844-7bd7.txt.html
This is for vanilla COH. Click on the Normandy campaign and it will prompt you to enter your vanilla COH serial, enter the one above and press OK. When it asks you where you got your game, click Retail. Now it will ask you to enter your cd, alt tab out, unmount the opposing fronts mini image and mount the vanilla coh mini image. Then go back in and press ok.
10. Congratulations! If you have done everything correct, all the campaigns and factions for both singleplayer and multiplayer will have been unlocked, you will be able to play the game without using a CD, lan multiplayer via hamachi will work, and you will be able to update to future versions seamlessly.
If anyone has any problems then just post back here. For any of those who aren't that good at computers, to run the game in the future, you mount the OF image file, not the vanilla coh image file. The vanilla coh was purely there to unlock the original campaigns and can be safely deleted afterwards. Extra's for Clarification
There is an alternative way to do this but it's not as good. Instead of installing opposing fronts, this process involves downloading vanilla coh, patching it up to full, and then getting an OF serial. This works because Relic wanted users of both games to be compatible multiplayer, so they issued a gigantic patch for vanilla COH that contained almost all of the opposing fronts files. Install this patch and you can get the campaigns for OF as well. The reason why this method is inferior is because:
1. It's easier to find COH F than vanilla here on Warez-BB
2. The patch issued for COH is missing some files such as unit speeches.
3. COH F contains all of the files for vanilla coh and if you try to install that over vanilla COH, it will uninstall vanilla coh first. So in effect, OF contains everything while vanilla + patches contains almost everything.
Have fun playing! Also say thanks if this helped you out. |
